Who the hell is VF_DOS_ ?

vf_dos

For the past 12 months an artist known only as VF_DOS_ (The second underscore is imperative) has beguiled and mystified the Staten Island indie music scene without ever playing a single show.  Using only Myspace to herald his name, DOS has created a mystique that is impossible to ignore, and even harder to forget. The musicians’ member profile  on the popular social networking site has been viewed almost 25,000 times and his music has spread to indie mix-tapes compiled by the likes of Noise.com, and was also featured by uber-music blogger Pat Duffy, of Pop Tarts Suck Toasted.

What did Duffy have to say about the mystery that is VF_DOS_? “The man behind the curtain doesn’t really matter all that much though, provided he’s still pumping out great tunes behind his computer screen of anonymity, and VF_DOS_ does just that. With music that is electronically tinged and synthesized he manages to craft something that still has something of a heart thanks to his ear for melody” Today DOS is proud to announce the release of a new album which took 12 months to compile has been titled “Ancient Hatreds And Modern Weapons”

The album’s melodies have obviously been very deliberately constructed; So when the guitar line in a track’s breakdown is stuck in your head hours later… understand that DOS intended that all along. Standout tracks from the disc include “Ego Blood” which screams to be included in a Quentin Tarrantino film, and “Space Terror” whose bass line spins a web that even first time listeners will be caught humming along with by the songs 2:01 finish.

It’s not only about the music however, DOS is also known to have an interesting style of cover art. Graphic Designer Carlo Montagnino, best known for his involvement with Staten Island Media powerhouse Dog and Pony Show, applauded DOS’ eye for design when asked about the enigmatic musician’s new album cover. “I like the cover a lot, VF_DOS_ did a great job. It encapsulates his random feeling cut and paste DIY style. it’s also just fun to look at (in my opinion). I like textures. It’s abstract which is nice, I dont care much for obvious cover art.”  Montagnino must not be kidding, as he’s hosting the artist’s new album on his personal blog for online release.
