Same work, same team, steady leadership

Over thirty-five years ago, I founded Dock Street. Since then, we’ve grown into a firm with a team and clients who’ve stayed with us for decades (this year marks the 35th anniversary of a client and Marjan’s 20th anniversary with the firm).

Five years ago, Spencer Ogden joined the firm after nearly 20 years in the hedge fund world. Over this time, he has been, in the words of Evan, “a learning machine.” His work has naturally progressed, and he has been steadily taking on more of the responsibilities of working with clients and leading Dock Street. Many of you have already worked closely with him in this capacity. Today, I want to formally share that he will step into the role of President of Dock Street.

For me, this is not a retirement. Starting your own business comes with a lot of advantages, one being that I get to decide when I’m done. And now is not the time. I am moving into the role of Chairman, continuing my work with clients and remaining deeply engaged in our investment process and long-term direction. The day-to-day leadership now rests with Spencer, whose work in strengthening our operations and building the team has already begun to move the firm forward.

The rest of our team remains firmly in place. Evan McGoff continues to serve as Chief Investment Officer, bringing rigor and insight to our investment process, with Marjan, Adam, and Liz continuing to support you and the greater work at Dock Street.

So yes, this is news. But as with Evan’s CIO announcement last year, it is more a recognition of what has already been true than a change in how we operate.

As Evan recently shared, “More than just a generalist, Spencer knows a lot about a lot of different things. Whether it’s technology, finance, or philosophy, his depth and breadth of understanding makes him particularly well suited to running our kind of business.”

Dock Street’s future is in strong hands, and I look forward to working alongside Spencer and our team as we continue the work we’ve always done—investing with patience, focus, and conviction.

Best regards,

Daniel A. Ogden
