Dinner Time Finances
Answering the big questions
One of the greatest gifts of summer is sitting around one table with not just my husband and kids but our extended family as well. It always brings about lots of laughter, kids running around, and adults having great conversations to catch up on what’s happened over the last few months and year.
These conversations often extend to topics of career and large financial decisions (buying a house, savings strategy, who bought Nvidia this year, etc.). Our family is not unique in this way. We’ve noticed that come fall, after everyone has returned to work and school, a number of clients have some big questions that have come up from these dinner-time conversations. Not just about their investment portfolio, but about how they’re developing a financial plan for themselves and their families.
With this in mind, we thought it might be helpful to highlight some of the topics we, Spencer in particular, discuss with clients beyond their investment portfolios:
- Trusts and wills
- Taxes
- Purchasing or selling your home
- Loans
- Collaboration with a client’s accountant, lawyer, etc.
- Opening accounts for kids or grandkids
Dock Street’s philosophy in investing has always been to keep it simple, and we feel the same way about planning. The elements above aren’t a checklist, financial discussions should start with what’s worrying you most. Spencer has been working closely with a number of clients to provide additional guidance on all things financial, a service that is included in our asset-based fee. If any of these topics or others are on your mind, let’s chat – I can help coordinate time with you and Spencer.
In the meantime, enjoy these remaining warm summer evenings with friends and family.
Best Regards,
Elizabeth Curtin
